Chappell-Hadlee Trophy History

Named after the legendary cricketing families of Ian, Gregory and Trevor Chappell of Australia, and Walter, Barry, Dayle and Richard Hadlee of New Zealand, the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy is awarded to the winner of the men’s One Day International (ODI) series between…you guessed it…New Zealand and Australia. The tournament has been contested since 2004-05.

*Two back-to-back championships, one in Australia in December 2016 and the other in New Zealand in January-February 2017, were played in the 2016-17 period. Australia won the first while New Zealand won the second.

**In 2011 and 2015, the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy was incorporated as a one-match series into the World Cup fixtures. Australia won its 2011 match fixture against New Zealand and retained the trophy, while New Zealand won its 2015 fixture against Australia and regained the trophy.

***As noted above, the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy for 2011 and 2015 was incorporated as a one-match series into the World Cup fixtures for those years. As a result, the “Player of the Match” in these respective matches were effectively the “Player of the Series” for those years.
