T20 World Cup

Note: Due to the rising popularity of Twenty20 Cricket, named for its 20-over per side format, a World T20 was first held in 2007 involving all the major league cricketing nations. In November 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) renamed the tournament T20 World Cup. Although the tournament is now called the T20 World Cup, it is still not on par with the original 50-over World Cup played only every four years. Rather, the T20 World Cup follows the former World T20 tradition - i.e. it is played every one or two years. However, the last World T20/T20 World Cup was played in 2016. With the next T20 World Cup in 2020, this will be the longest gap in the history of this tournament.
